Harper and Harper Stick Horse Rodeo Company was formed to help promote the sport of Rodeo in the youth of today.   Owners of the Stick Horse Rodeo Company are Cheyenne and Maverick Harper with Harper Rodeo Co., Inc. Cheyenne and Maverick produce either a Stick Horse Rodeo or a Stick Bull Riding.  The event is a simulation of a real live rodeo or bull riding.  Only!  The cowboys and cowgirls ride stick horses or stick bulls.  A miniature rodeo arena is set up with real bucking chutes.  The little cowboys and cowgirls get to compete in the same environment as Professional cowboys and cowgirls. Whenever possible, the events are held in the actual arena where the Professional Rodeo and Professional Bull Riding contestants actually compete.  Entry fees in each event are $7.00.

The Stick Rodeo features six rodeo events to include Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Goat Tail Untying and Flag Racing in two ages groups (ages 0-4 and ages 5-7) and Barrel Racing, Pole Bending in ages 5-7 age group only.  Trophies are awarded in each age group for first through third.

The Stick Bull Riding host bull riding only and host two age groups, Juniors (ages 0-4) and Seniors (ages 5-7).  Trophies are given for First through Sixth in each age group.  Then the top six in each age group are brought back for the Finals and the top rider in each age group is awarded a Trophy Belt Buckle.

In addition to trophies and belt buckle awards, all contestants receive discounts to the Professional Rodeo or Professional Bull Riding performances that follow nightly.  Rodeo clowns and Professional Bull Riders are available for autographs.

Stick Horse Rodeo Events
Bronc Riding:   The Bronc Rider begins his ride in a miniature bucking chute on his stick horse.  His 6 second time begins when the chutes gate opens and he bucks out holding on to his stick horse with one hand and the other hand high in the air.   The rider is judged on his control during the ride and the presentation of his ride.  Scores usually range from the 50’s to the 80’s.    Highest score wins.  This event is for ages 0-4 and 5-7

Barrel Racing:  The miniature barrels (3) are set up in the arena in a cloverleaf pattern.  The rider must come into the arena and run his/her horse around each barrel in a cloverleaf pattern without knocking them over and then back to the alley with great speed as this is a timed event.   A five second penalty is accessed for each barrel knocked over.   Drawing of the pattern is below.  Fastest time wins.  This event is open to ages 5-7 only

Goat Tail Untying:There will be a goat at one end of the arena.  The goat has a ribbon on his tail.  The contestant runs from the entrance of the arena to the goat, grabs the ribbon off the goat’s tail and runs back to the finish line.  This is a timed event.  Fastest time wins. This event is for ages 0-4 and 5-7

Pole Bending: There are (3) poles in the center of the arena approximately 5 foot apart.  The pole bender contestant starts his or her run from the entrance of the arena with great speed.  Time begins at a designated starting line. The pattern is in and out of the poles down there and back without knocking one over.  Time stops at the designated finish line.  A five second penalty is accessed for each pole that is knocked to the ground.  Fastest time wins.   Drawing of the pattern is below.  This event for ages 5-7 only.

Flag Racing:  A small flag is placed in a bucket at one end of the arena.  The contestant starts at the entrance of the arena, runs to the other end and gets the flag, and then runs back to the finish line.  Fastest time wins. This is for ages 0-4 and 5-7

Bull Riding: Just stay on 6 seconds and you’ve got it made! The rider comes out of the bucking chute holding on with one hand to his bull and one hand high in the air.   The rider is scored on his control and presentation of his ride.  Rider receives no score if he bucks off or falls to the ground before the 6 second time.  Scores usually range from the 50’s to the 80’s.  Highest score wins.  This event is for ages 0-4 and ages 5-7.
