ABOUT COLUMBUS, GEORGIA
As Georgia’s third largest city, Columbus is home to Ft. Benning, the best Army Installation in the World, as well as the site of the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. As part of B.R.A.C. (Base Realignment and Closure), Ft. Benning welcomed troops from Ft. Knox's Armor School to Ft. Benning and brought with it, a total population increase of approx. 28,000 people in 2011.
Columbus is the corporate headquarters for many national companies such as AFLAC, Carmike Cinemas, Char-Broil, Synovus and TSYS. Columbus is also home to Columbus State University, which has an enrollment of over 8,000 students.
The Columbus metropolitan area includes Muscogee, Harris and Chattahoochee counties in Georgia, and Russell County in Alabama. Columbus is 30 miles from Auburn University and the brand new Kia manufacturing plant located in West Point, Georgia.
